BT Infinity 2 is not a no cost upgrade

If you believe the adverts and also the Web site, BT Infinity 2 is free to upgrade if you are already on Infinity.

If you follow the follow the obvious links from the www.bt.com home page, it's all good news! All I'll have to do is sign up for anther 12/18 months.

However as I can't afford for by Broadband to be down for long periods, I have a business option. So I'm told to phone 152. Which I do, only to be told it's going to cost me an additional £5 per month over and above what I'm paying now!

The sales person said the Website does state this....well I have to say it does, if you go via a Link found after first doing a search.   How BT expect us to come across this condition do our own I' at a loss to understand.

If it's a free upgrade to those on a standard contract, why does it cost more for those of us on a contract were we can't afford the downtime.

So it appears that I'm paying more for an inferior product (from a speed aspect)

I agree that I have to pay a premium for quick fixes, which I'm already paying..... It just sad they they now want to sting me again!

Plus it's case of BT trying to hide their terms and conditions.... you follow links that are in plain site, only to be told you are looking at the wrong place, you have to be instructed to search for the item to find  in order to find the true cost.

So it's a case of false advertising as far as I'm concerned, legally it may not be, but in my eyes (The consumer) it is!

I'd Like to know that BT are aware that they are alienating their customers.

Sorry to hear that but. It would be nice to get a clarification on this.

Before 80/20, it was £30 a month. This was called option 1, and came with 100GB download limit.

For an extra £5 you could have unlimited download. This was called option 2.

Now, if you want 80/20 you must be on option 2, hence £5 more.

It really is silly to want 80/20 if you are capped at 100GB, so it makes sense to me.

I must admit though, BT sales do not explain this extra £5 option 2 very well - I was already on option 2 so I would keep paying £35, and when I exaplined this to the woman on the phone, I could hear here brain explode.

I agree, I cannot afford the downtime so need to be on a business contract. But the thought of being penalised everytime a new offer is available in comparison to regular BT Infinity home users is absurd.

Does anyone know if you can downgrade your Infinity account to a regular home account even if you are in contract?

No, you can't. BT Business treat their consumer kin as competition, so they won't release you from the contract without charging you.

As one of the posts above has already said, if you were already on the unlimited package, it would have been a free upgrade. As Infinity 2 is only available as an unlimited service to Business Customers, that's where the extra £5 per month comes in.

When you think about it from a business perspective, it makes sense that BT Business protect themselves in terms of usage; speed has for years been limited by the technology involved and, with Ofcom paying close attention, ISPs have tended not to charge customers for performance, but for levels of use. While you might get the odd individual downloader with a residential line downloading between 50 and 200GB on the fibre product, but there's a very real possibility of Businesses with multiple users running up to 1TB of usage.

I realise that from your point of view that it's still an additional outlay, but if you were to upgrade to the higher package, it's likely that you'd get any further improvements at no further cost.
