BT Office Communicator and Windows 7

I've been using BT Office Communicator successfully in XP for approx 2 years without any problems.

Recently I brought a new PC base unit with 1TB hard drive and 4GB of RAM running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.

I downloaded and installed from BT Business website the Office Communicator (Version 3.3.2 build 48116) and have encountered problems since.

This is the same version and builds number on my XP laptop which runs fine.

Basically the problem I’m having is that when using in XP and I finish a call it returns to normally working straight away. Whereas in Windows 7 when I finish a call it seems to hang and will not revert back to normal use for anything between 10 and 30 secs. This is now proving to be annoying as I use this package alot for my business.

I have spoken with someone at BT VOIP, who has checked this out and basically I’ve been told that she has passed to the back office to look at and that I will have to wait for a BT update – which nobody knows how long that could take.

I DO NOT have any firewalls being used on my PC other than the one built into the 2wire router.

Any ideas please as this is now driving me nuts especially if I have an incoming call whilst on a call as I cannot just cancel and pick up the new call.

Many thanks

Hi

I have been in contact with BT Office Communicator and they have told me it is not currently compatible with Windows 7, they are reviewing the situation but are unable to confirm timelines for delivering the solution.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Kind Regards

Many thanks for the reply Fiona.

Just after I posted this query, I had a lovely lady call from Office Communicator back office with the same answer..... I guess it's now a question of waiting 😞

Thanks

I guess I've just been lucky. I am running Windows 7 Ent 64bit and I use BTOC all day without any issues.

isn't "BT" office communicator just microsoft windows messenger that comes with windows/office?

I think it is Microsoft Office Communicator rather than Windows Messenger. It is similar software though, but without the games and all the "fun" stuff.

sorry, i thought this was the BUSINESS forum.

I am aware that this is the business forum. All I was saying is that whilst similar, Office Communicator is not quite the same software as Windows Messenger that comes with Windows.
