Broadband usage

How do I check my usage on a day to day basis? I keep getting stung with charges and I don't want to 'upgrade' to a new two year contract.

Thanks,

I feel your pain on this subject

option a: put BT customer support on speed dial and ask them every day

option b: install third party software to log your network activity if your Operating System does not do this already.

Plan B is of course a complete pain in the ass for any small business running more than a few PCs connected directly to the Internet hub because you have to go to every device on the network and tot up all the figures manually.

Lockdown your Wifi as well! As an employer I can tolerate my staff charging mobile devices and a bit of personal web browsing but draw the line at folk performimg multi-gigabyte downloads & synching of iPods.

Larger firms ususally have a 'gateway' machine (that doubles up as communal storage, website server, mail server, firewall, cctv recorder.. etc) between the workplace wired & wifi networks and the actual router so you only have to record what its been sending & receiving.

Thank you Sogo7. It would be nice to hear form BT as well! BT home users can see a daily total - why not business users?

BT Business, answers please!

Hi All,

we have not been made aware if a useage  tracker will be becoming available for business users. We have asked if one can become available, but have no information as to when or even if yet.

If you need to query the usage on your Business broadband line you can email liteusage@btbroadbandoffice.com

UPDATE:

There is a workaround that can log the BTHub's actual useage but it's not a user friendly package at this time and does require some knowledge of advanced coding, specifically AJAX/ JSON and cURL (using PHP or Python). Not tried it myself yet on the latest firmware, however the theory is sound.

That link doesn't work any more. Looks like the guy changed the domain he uses. It's now at:

I also notice he says something about it not working at the moment. I'll check it out, see if I can fix it, and report b
