Can't FTP to webspace and domain doesn't work!

Please help, I need to upload a site by the end of this weekend but I cannot FTP to the webspace.

I have a domain name (not bought through BT) and tried to point it at the BT webspace. This worked fine but I could not figure out how to transfer the domain name to BT and so coulnd't FTP to the webspace.

I thought a quick and easy way would be to buy another domain name, this time through BT and FTP through that. I bought the other domain and it still will not let me FTP.

I get this message from the control centre under the link to my webspace: "click here to access. NB: Domains cannot be used with this web space"

Why not?? The domain name I bought through BT does point to the webspace and I can even test the connection through the 'manage domain name' part and it brings up a new window with the webspace, so it all appears to work.

But if I type in the domain name I bought through BT into IE I get a 403 error message.

Can anyone please help? I bought a new domain name that I didn't need or really want so I could FTP but I still can't.

Hi

If you can please supply the domain names in question (that you bought with BT and the one registered elsewhere) it will be easier for someone to try and look into the issue for you.

Have you actually bought any webspace? It sounds like you are using the free webspace, which as you have discovered does not support domains.

It sounds like you maybe should have bought a hosting package from BT to point your domain to, rather than buying a domain from BT.

I think I am paying for hosting as this account (which I call my personal account) used to be my business account and my old company website was hosted from it (and is still on there).

It is actually even more complicated than I made out as the webspace relates to my personal account but I now have a new business account through BT that my business website is currently hosted from. I can FTP to this account but it still says the "NB domains cannot be used for this account".

I was originally going to use the business account for the hosting but I'm due to transfer the business domain name to somewhere else and so I wasn't sure what would happen. The fact that is says domains cannot be used for the business account also means I may have the same problem as I've got now once I transfer my business domain name!

I bought www.pharmaenergy.co.uk/ through my personal BT account which works when I test it in the BT control panel but doesn't when I type it in IE

The domain name I want to use with the personal account (and not bought through BT) is  www.saraandtim.co.uk

At the moment, this one points to my business webspace (which also says domains cannot be used) and I can FTP to it through my business domain name www.projectiveltd.co.uk

Sorry, a rather long winded reply. All I want to do is to FTP to my personal webspace. I'm happy to pay whatever I need to but I'm not sure what the issue is.

When I go to http://www.pharmaenergy.co.uk I get taken to a page that says it is PROJECTIVE Limited. This website is being forwarded to: http://home.btconnect.com/projectiveltd-web1/index.htm which is your free BT connect web space. To upload to this you would upload to your free BT Connect web space, for details click HERE.

When I go to http://www.saraandtim.co.uk it takes me to Sara and Tims wedding site, which I take was with your BT Web hosting package. To upload to this you would FTP to saraandtim.co.uk through the hosting account FTP Details or via the website creator, for details click HERE.

Have I understood this correctly, or are you trying to do something different?

You may have to bear with me as I'm not a web expert and all of this was set up years ago by someone else. I always thought a domain name and FTPing to a webspace were two totally unrelated things and so I am possibly a bit confused.

www.pharmaenergy.co.uk points to my personal webspace. My business website used to be hosted from here (it's still on there)

www.saraandtim.co.uk points to my business webspace, which also hosts my current business website and I can FTP to this site through www.projectiveltd.co.uk (which is my current business website).

I'm due to transfer the domain name www.projectiveltd.co.uk away from the business webspace and so I will not be able to use it to FTP anymore to the site. I can't FTP to it with www.saraandtim.co.uk.

Both webspaces will be available for me to use for the wedding website and I'm not too fussed which one I do use. I'm worried that when I transfer the www.projectiveltd.co.uk domain then I will be unable to update the wedding website.

Is it possible to have a website hosted from http://home.btconnect.com/projectiveltd-web1 and to FTP to it?

If not then I can use my business site which is located at http://home.btconnect.com/projectiveltd as my current business website is hosted from there and I can FTP to it. However, once the domain name www.projectiveltd.co.uk is transfered then I will no longer be able to FTP to it and may be in the same situation I am in now!

Also, both of these webspaces say "NB:Domains cannot be used with this webspace".

I can totally understand why this is so confusing, i believe this is because you have two BT Business Accounts each with different domains under them. Also you have set up domain forwarding to different address's.

I have send you a private mail with some information on the domains, though it may be best talking to the domain and webhosting team directly for some guidence on this.
