Downloaded the set up manager, applied it, and, guess what, apart from receiving the last weeks emails, in duplicate, twice, I can't send any emails. BT says it's an Apple issue while, you guessed it, Apple says it's BTs fault. Was on the phone to BT for 2 hours, and they finally admitted defeat, while Apple sent me a form to fill in for BT which just confirms all the settings I went through with them. My iPhone seems to have accepted the transition, but not my iMac. Haven't 'migrated' my wife's old G5 yet, and it still sends emails – what a surprise!
If anyone knows more than the jokers I've been talking to today, I'd love your advice!
Hi Hoad. Check your SMTP settings since you cannot send emails. Can you please post the SMTP and Pop3 servers set on this client? Also include if authentication is enabled.
BT staff should be able to verify this.
Hi There,
I had this problem with a customer last week. The solution appears (and I know its crazy) to have one outgoing SMTP server with all the authentication settings and one more (Call it smtp2) with the same server name and no outbound autrhentication. I know it sounds mad but it works.
I hope this helps

Hi gugaguga
Spent 2 hours on the phone to BT today to no avail. They even took over remote control of my Mac to try and sort it out but had to admit they didn't know what to do. Told me to phone Apple, who told me it was a BT problem.
Go figure!
Hi G
Tried your solution (I think – I'm a bit of a Luddite) but didn't work, that is if I tried the right thing. I'm just a GOM who hates change; shen I saw that email from BT this morning I just knew it would end in tears!
Hi
Ihave had same the problem.
I change setting in the advanced box for outing mail to default (not 587).
And I could send e-mails again.
It only took me two hours to sort it.
Thank BT
Hi Angela
Thanks for trying but still no joy!
My old G5, which I haven't upgraded, still sends emails, even though BT stated on the email yesterday that I wouldn't be able to use the old system. Of course I should have realised that it wouldn't work because it's a Microsoft product, and they have a really good track record with Macs – not!
With a heavy heart I think I need to ring BT again (does BT stand for 'bloody terrible'?)
