Change Nameservers - how difficult does it have to be?

I'm a web developer, have been building websites for 13 years now. This is the first time I've had to deal with BT regarding hosting, and if I can do anything about it, it will be the last.

Can someone explain to me how I can QUICKLY change the nameservers on a domain.

I have the root login to the account. I have access to everything. If I wanted to I could delete the account and everything in it and yet I can't change the nameservers. I filled in this manual form to change the name servers. There was a delay becuase I had to find the phone bill account number...how stupid is that since I have the root password...anyway, filled that in Tuesday morning, now I'm waiting for some kind of acknowledgment. An auto reply would be good! Meanwhile the site is due to be launched, yesterday.

Normally you just login to where the name was purchased, and enter the new nameservers and wait a day for them to propogate. With BT you have to email them. You have to tell them your secret answer. You need to let them know the phone account number. And then the screen tells you that you need to wait a few days now while someone reviews it...It's almost as if they don't want you moving hosting...

I would just change the A records, but of course the system won't let me, it's greyed out and says theres a problem.

Am I missing something, is there a trick I'm missing here?
