Hi guys/gals.
I'm reasonably impressed with my BT2700HGV business hub (sw version: 6.3.9.63-plus.tm). The usual few niggles - but other than that it does its job quite well.
I am being PLAGUED by attacks from a Verizon IP address (108.11.0.211) LITERALLY 1,000 to 4,000 times per day, and I'm worried that eventually they're going to break into my system just through brute force.
I've looked long and hard, but I cannot find a way to block INCOMING IP address/range on the businss hub. Surely I'm missing it somehwere - as it is an absolutely essential facility and I cannot believe such a major facility would be omitted.
I'm sure they'll switch to another IP address once I block this one - but, hey, let's see who gets bored first!
Can some kind person please point me in the right direction.
Kindest regards, and thanks in advance,
Alan
Season's Greetings!
Hi Alan,
I have spoken to our network team, who look at issues with the BT routers. From what they have said the current business hub and the new Business hub 3 do not have this type of facility. If you are looking to do something like this you would need to look into purchasing your own router, that does have this function.

Markp
Hi MarkP.
Thank you VERY much for taking the time to research this matter and letting me know the answer despite your suspicion I would not like the answer. Your professionality is hugely appreciated.
I am an I.T. professional of 35 years (started JUST as the first Amstrad PC's were being rolled out), so didn't think I'd simply "missed" the feature whilst navigating around the modem's console.
Would your guys be prepared to block that particular IP address at your master firewall. That hacker at Verizon is definitely up to no good.
Sadly, failing that, and because my BT ADSL service is only 3Mb (distance from exchange) and because Infinity won't be available in our area for at least another 5 years (if at all), I shall probably switch to a Virgin residential package (we already have a cable service at our address which flies along at 50Mb and is (sad to say) far mor reliable than BT Business has been durirng the last 6 months (more than 24 hours outage due to central, not local, failures).
Once again, thanks for your honesty. Would be great if you could block that one IP address at your end, as it would keep me faithful to BT for a while longer.
Sincere and kind regards,
Alan
what router do you recommend?
I would go with Cisco routers if I were you.
Hi
Any particular model? I be very interested to know BT's recommendation and other users experience of that model.
I am having to reboot my BT hub quite often. the latency is is quite often 130ms even the download tests shown 30odd mb download and 8mb upload I am finding the internet slow to the point I can even watch iplayer without it buffering. I also used to be able to RDP to my machine and use it from outside which is the main use of the PC but this stopped working several months agao to be finally told I need a new router, so I am saving my pennies to make sure I get the best one to give me the best user experience.
I can't believe the router supplied does not give you the option to deny specific addresses and select your own DNS servers. I still don't think a new router will solve my RDP issue as it used to work (I believe they are blocking specific ports to my IP Address) but I can not get anyone on the phone to agree or help me apart from them telling me I need to change my router. And the wireless range is rubbish compared to all the other routers I have previously used.
Your recommendations would be very greatful.
Thanks
George
