Domain Renewal

Hi i have had my domain/ web hosting package for nearly two years, I have recieved no email about renewal. Will it just continue or is there a process for renewal. 

I have been on the phone on hold to web hosting for 30 minutes now, no answer, can anyone help me on here?

Hi Nell1234,

It will depend if you have your domain name setup to auto renew. To check if you login to the BT website, as the primary main user, select manage services, then select manage domain names.

In this section it will tell you if your domain name is set to auto renew or if not when the domain name is due to expire.

I've gone through this process as well and having a free domain as part of package which shows expiry in the coming month (Apr 2012).

After contacting support I've been told that domain has been updated to auto renew but same expiry date is still shown in the web page. It makes me concerned that domain will still expire and have nothing but an email to say otherwise. Its been 10 days since I had email saying it would be auto renewing, plenty of time for online databases to update.

A final update.

Emailed support and they were able to update domain so expiry is now in 2014. Can't see auto renew still but solved my immediate problem.

@richardc;   edit: looks like I was typing as you posted

what should happen (and it can vary slightly depending on whether,for example, you have a co.uk or .com domain) is that the auto-renew will probably kick in about 10 days before the actual expiry date. You can do a "whois" on the website and that will tell you detail/expiry date.

Do not worry  (too much!) If it does expire you do not lose the domain name; it goes into a "grace period" of about 45 days; and extends further than 45 days;  although what will happen is that after maybe 10 to 15 days you will lose emails/wesite visibility if the ISP (BT) put a "stop" on the account.

Ist thing: keep an eye on the website via "whois"

If you set auto renual process then no problem on that.

Same things happend to me and I was overcame it without any problem.

Hi Richardc,

Any free domains you have on your account will not have the auto-renew facility and should auto renew 30 days prior to expiry.

Hi,

As much I knew, you have to get a reminder from the web-master before the date of domain expire got uplifted. Wait for sometime and contact them through mail.
