Executable File Violation

My job require me to send an Excel file over to our collegue but I received this message

You attempted to send a message that contained an executable file.  Our company policy prohibits the sending of executable files via email.  The message was not delivered.

from IT@yourcompany.com

Is there any advice on how to overcome this problem... at present I am not sure whether my counterpart do received my attached file or not..

more than likely this is a restriction placed by your IT department -  the best way to get around this is to WINZIP the file and put an encryption code on this -  then send your colleague the encrypted file and code so that he can open this once it has been downloaded
