Frontpage can deny access to a web. Is your site locked?
Please can some one tell me exactly what is locked as I can view my website and publish.
But for some reason the site this week has gone dead. So thought I would look into this to see if its the problem.
does anyone know what the unlock tab is for.
In BT Package My Services in the contol panel under FrontPage where you set the server extensions
You have tabs,
---------------------------------------
I press unlock
If you are receiving this "error message" when your trying to access your website using your Frontpage client:
Frontpage Locked
----------------------------------
I then press continue and I get the message:
FrontPage Web appears to be Locked.
Unlocked completed.
---------------------------------------------------
I go back 1 hour later and press unlock and it says
FrontPage Web does Not appear to be Locked.
Unlocking not required.
------------------------------------------------------------------
I publish my website and it then shows
Frontpage Locked
-----------------------------------------
So what it this lock tab for.
Why when after I publish does it lock
I have spent all day on help sites, but cannot find out.
On the bt information download it says
Solving FrontPage access problems
Certain situations such as an unexpected disconnection or multiple users trying
to connect to a FrontPage web simultaneously can prevent you from logging into
your account. When this occurs, two files are modified (frontpg.lck and
service.lck) and access to the web is denied.
To correct this problem, select the "Unlock FrontPage Web" radio button and
click "Next". The _vti_pvt/frontpg.lck and _vti_pvt/service.lck files will be deleted
and access to the web will be restored.
I even rang bt, but although very helpful, he did not know what the unlock tab was for, or why it was there.
In the past on another server when my site was quiet after the tech did something, (not sure what, everything went back to normal)
Does anyone know.
Hi
An unexpected disconnection (clicking "Close" button in FrontPage instead of File-Close site) or multiple users trying to connect to a FrontPage web simultaneously can block FrontPage access. When this occurs, frontpg.lck and service.lck are modified and access to the web is denied, Unlock tab solves this issue. You can select the "Unlock FrontPage Web" and click "Next" and access to the web will be restored.
I hope this helps
Kind Regards
