I’ve created a website for use with my Internet Business Pack hosting package and domain name, but I’ve never really used my free web space at http://home.btconnect.com/mydomain other than to create an online photo album.
I would now like to upload documents like pdf’s etc. so I can view them online or host them so other people can view them.
How do I upload to and organise my free web space?
Thank you.

That's probably the problem, be sure the URL you try to visit it at includes the folder name in which the file is located, so in your case the URL would be something like domainname.co.uk/foldername/filename.pdf .
Note this is just the directory inside public, you do not need to include /public in the URL.
Hope this helps.

Ok, Maybe you can't do that then. . . . .
Should I just use file manager to upload them to my existing website?
How would I host a document something like www.mydomain.co.uk/documents/doc1?
Thank you.

Hello
When uploading files of any type, PDF,Jpeg or text files you must upload into the public folder, you can use both FTP clients (fetch, filezillie, ect) or you can use file manger, but you must be in the "public" folder when you upload using filemanger.

Thanks for your reply BLWRAVE
Can we go through this slowly?
Go to BT Website centre
Website Management
File Manager
Choose file, upload, I can now see the uploaded file under the Source Dir column.
Do I now download it to <DIR> Public under Destination Dir?
Can I create a new sub-directory within <DIR> Public?
Thank you

Hello
all the steps below are correct
Can we go through this slowly?
Go to BT Website centre
Website Management
File Manager
Choose file, upload, I can now see the uploaded file under the Source Dir column
you would now download it to <DIR> Public under Source Dir
to create a sub <DIR> in file manger if you look between Source dir and Dest dir there is a area called "Information" just add the sub DIR name in this area, call it what ever you desire and on the left had side the botton called MK DIR and it will create the <dir>

I’ve created a new directory within the public directory, and I think I’ve put some docs in there. How can I open the sub-directory to see what’s in it?

Hello
When you are in file manger you would double click on the <Dir> you created and it will open and you can see what has been placed inside

Ah yes, I've found it now!
So to view the document on line what will the URL be? www.mydomain.co.uk/public/newdirectory/doc1?
Will I need to republish my website first?
Thank you.

Hello
To view your documents you would have to use www.my.domain.co.uk/thefilename.pdf, and you would not have to republish to view the document once on the servers

Thanks for your reply BLWRAVE,
I still can't seem to get it to work, is it because I've put the doc in a separate directory within public?
Any idea where I'm going wrong.
