Looking to Upgrade Fibre Plan - Was advised not to do so by BT advisor

Hi everyone,

I placed a call earlier today to the BT Business sales department to see how much it would cost to increase the current 40/10 Fibre package we have at our main office to the unlimited 80/20 packagae.

The chap I spoke to was very polite and and said that yes, that wouldnt be a problem and would only cost an aditional £10 per month on the bill - No brainer, and the senior management team agreed.

When I rang back I spoke to a different person who said he couldnt action this (the previous one could and was ready to go, but i need clearence from the managers first) and said that I actually needed to call my BT Local Business team and gave me their number.

When I eventually got through to someone and explained what I wanted to do, I was then passed to yet another person who started to check into our account. He then quite quickly said, that he strongly recommends we do not upgrade our package as other companies who have upgraded have faced issues such as dropped connections and no internet at all for up to 24 hours, going on to say that obviously a company cannot have any internet downtime at all. For us that is a given, we have 4 different sites across bedfordshire and all Remotely access the main Server - so if the main office has no internet, all sites then will not have work access.

I was surprised by this as I have not heard anything about this before, and he seemed to say it as if it was matter of fact and has been happening for some time! He then very quickly went into listing my options, such as getting a brand new Phone and Broadband on a 2year, 3 year or 5 year contract, and had all the pricings right there ready to read off to me. I simply said no, and that it would be something I have to look into.

So ... any company here "upgraded" their broadband, and was left crippled with no internet as this BT chap told me? I was quite annoyed at this whole thing, especially when I ran a few checks on the phone number of this "BT Local Business centre" only to find its not actually BT, but a company called Ridgeway Communication Services!!

£10 a month upgrade now becoming a fresh service (still with downtime) and a £120 installation fee if im to believe this guy??? Very confused and very unhappy at the moment.

Many Thanks,

Liam Billington
