New business 2701 router, static IP address and web server

reab

Everything was OK untill I had to replace the 2700 router with a new 2701 router a little while ago.

The router firewall used to redirect web server calls to my web server nicely and now I just cannot get it to even give the IIS green screen if I enter the ip address by itself.

Is there an issue with these routers not passing port 80 traffic - I do have VoiP and a static ip address.

Any other ideas of something I haven't done as I was unable to retrieve the setup configuration of the old router and didn't note down the exact details as I always thought that they were fairly standard settings!

I believe there IS a port 80 issue but the Tech Helpdesk will not acknowledge it.

I need to get a good understanding of speeds some remote links can handle and like to check my own connection first.   I use the ThinkBroadband speedtester at:

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html?utm_source=mainsite&utm_medium=navigation&utm_campaign=...

Everything will work fine - except when I use the Port80 option when it will sit there and sulk.

On my original non-Infinity 2700 - worked fine,  Infinity with 2701 - sulked, until one day when it started working.   Then, replaced the 2701 and the problem has returned ...

I have demonstrated it to Tech support and they blame my set up!   even though a simple change of the 2701 and the problem disappears.

Try the speed test at your end and see what happens if you have Port80 selected or not.

As for this instance being a TBB issue - unlikely given the experience of those who run the site.  It is almost certainly in the 2710 or BT network.

Thanks for that advice MHC.

Yes tried that and it does appear that port 80 is being blocked by the router just as you found.

I'll try escalating the issue to the helpdesk to start with and see what response I get from them!

Maybe a BT moderator is looking and can confirm this issue? Hmm . . . on 2nd thoughts perhaps not, as I sense this is going to be a can of worms!

 Hi reab,

I have been in contact with our network team who look at router issues.  They have seen a few issues with general port forwarding not working properly, is it not specific to port 80.  If you contact the helpdesk they can have a look at your issues with port forwarding to see if they can fix this issue for you. Please use this contact us page.

markp,

I have raised this and several other minor problems with the help desk but have never had a solution. I just have to live with them

For example:   Some websites never finish loading - the little Icon on the tab continues to spin and never changes to the site icon.   Taking my PC elsewhere going to te same sit and it works perfectly - return to base and the problem is back - the PC is in hibernate not off.   My PC,  website, router or network?   Almost certainly not my PC or the router.   As with port 80 the problem finally disappeared but then reappeared with a new 2701 and line reset.

or line latency suddenly increasing from 12ms to 200ms for just a few seconds - and it happens every 50 minutes.   Proven not to be anything on my side/wiring and must be router/hub related.

Was a full field trial and evaluation of the 2701 carried out?

Hi MHC,

After speaking to a few more people, it has become apparent that the default MTU of 1500 in the 2701 seems to be causing problems but when we reduce this to 1458 seemed to resolve most of the problems.

If only ...    That had been suggested before and did not work,  I had already tried it before the suggestion was made.

Just to check, I have just set the 2701 to a 1458 MTU, rebooted and matched that MTU on my PC and also taken the PC down to 1430.   The port 80 and other issues remain.

Hi MHC,

This will need to be investigated by our network helpdesk, I would suggest anyone having issues with port forwarding issues to contact us, to allow us to investigate them further.
