Pointing External domain to BT web hosting error

Andy80310

Hi,

I have tried to use the "Your Account / Manage Services / Web Hosting"

to set up web hosting for my external domain, "xxx-xxx.com" and it throws up and error on hitting the "apply" button in the format of

"There was an error while validating External Domain, please try again later ."

There are no other clues.

The external domain currently points to a "Page under Construction" hosted by Freecom, the web page thrown up does indeed show up as xxx-xxx.xom correctly.

Freecom are at the moment point the DNS A record to BT's service at 209.235.144.9.

Could it be that I will be able to configure the BT hosting once the DNS record has been propagated, or is there some other error like ownership issues (its a .com) or an internal BT error.

How do BT verify that I own the xxx-xxx.com anyway?

Any help much appreciated!

Regards

Andy

Hi Andy,

I have seen a few of these issues recently.

This is normally caused by the domains MX record not pointing to ibmr.btconnect.com (which is how we verify you own the domain).

In this case ask you host to point the MX record a try to verify once more.

If you encounter any issues please use the dns enquiry form at www.dnsforms.co.uk.
