Re: Large file download capping -

Hi,

interesting advice both re the Intego antivirus6 and the firmware upgrade.  I am running  AV6 and had no message as described at all, only the download limiter.

Obviously I need to call BT but as regards whose responsibility it is it must lie with BT as the purveyor of the equipment rather than the manufacturer.

Still, no worries, thank you all for the advice.

Hi Don55,

Further to my previous post.  We have carried our testing and it is indeed a problem with certain firmware within the BT 2 Wire router.

If you contact the support desk with the serial number of the 2Wire router with the problem we can send a request to get the firmware of the router updated.

We do applogise to those customers  affected by this.

Although unsupported by BT, for the advanced users out there who are using this router and firmware version, there is a workaround for this which works. All you need to do is put the router in bridged mode and set up a PPPoE connection on the Mac.

Disclaimer: Please do not attempt this if you do not know what you are doing. You will need to factory reset the router when finished so please ensure you have a note of all settings before proceeding. Also it's sensible to make sure the Mac's software firewall is on before doing this.

1. Set up an ethernet connection between the Mac and router. Test and make sure it works!

2. In the Mac network settings, create a new PPPoE connection. Enter your BT Broadband network login details

3. Log into the router interface and go to Settings > Broadband > Link configuration

4. Set ATM-Encapsulation to Bridged LLC

5. Untick the ATM PVC search box

6. Set Connection type to Direct IP

7. Scroll down and click save

8. Untick the enable routing box

9. Click the save button again

10. Go back to the Mac network settings and click connect on the PPPoE connection.

You should now have a connection which will allow you to bypass the file size limitation of the router. When you are finished, you will need to factory reset the router and reconfigure it as before. You can also delete the PPPoE connection.

Hope this helps

dave, many thanks but looks a bit daunting. I have a username but no idea what my router's password is - is it easy to find, I don't remember setting it myself?

The CHAP password as it is known was probably setup when you opened the account originally. If you don't still have a note of this you can reset it by doing the following:

Log into your account at http://myoffice.bt.com

Click on Router Settings (under Your Account Settings section)

Click Change Router Password

I am sorry I am obviously being thick but i can log into my account with no problem but there is no Account Settings section.  if i go to manage services it tells me to log out of the current session and log in with a btconnect.com address and password, which I have never had.

Hi,

If you have a BT Business account then you'll have an @btconnect.com username and password, as this is used for account management.

If you don't have it then you'll need to contact the Helpdesk and give them your account details, and they'll be able to give you the info you need.

How long will it take before I get this information once I contacted support?
