HI
I have got 5 static IP addresses from BT.
Before we used bt we only had one static IP which was fine. I could point a device to our one and only static IP and then follow it with a port number.
Now I dont seem to be able to do that with the BT hub 3.
I can give a PC one of the 5 Static IP addresses but I have more than 5 devices and for convenience I would like to only use one static address to communicate with all my devices.
Is this possible?
You could downgrade to a single static IP and do what you did before by setting up port forwarding
Didn't quite follow what you are needing to do
If you want each of your devices addressable from the Internet (WAN) then you'll have to either A. have each one assigned to a separate one of your static (public fixed) IP addresses OR B. give them fixed local addresses on the LAN and configure the Port Forwarding settings on BT Hub 3.
A combination of A and B above should give you addressability to as many different LAN devices as there are ports plus the BT Business Hub is clever enough to allow each public fixed IP address to have it's own firewall / port mapping.
So I have 3 servers, each with it's own public fixed IP Address and each with port 22 open so I can SSH into each one from the Internet.
I haven't needed to also Port Forward to a device on my LAN since I obtained the 5 public fixed IP Addresses but used to do this all the time with a single IP Address and the facility is in the BT Hub 3 to allow you do Port Forwarding to LAN devices as well as map ports per. Which external IP address you would use I don't know - you'd have to experiment. And I imagine you'd have to use ports that weren't already in use by one or more servers addressable by public fixed IP Adresses.
Not the definitive answer you might need, but I think you might, with a little experimentation, be able to achieve what you want.
It also allows mobile computers to more easily move between different networks . It is better to assign IP addresses to these devices instead of three different methods to move from dynamic to static IP addresses .
