The Microsoft MSN Search Engine 'BING' has a similar authentication method to GOOGLE using either a provided XML file in the root folder or HTML meta tag which you put in the head section.
ePages does not seem to support placing files in the root folder (or does it?) so I have tried using the meta tag.
I get an authenitication error which is apparently quite frequent: "We were not able to locate your authorization code".
I am wondering if the problem is related to the fact that in an ePages setup the website is infact 2 levels down from the .com level due to having to go through the epages. In the Bing site list, when you put in your URL. it will not support an address any lower that the root domain "The site address isn't valid. Only one level of subdomain is supported"
For example my home page is actually at:
http://www.ezpmppdu.com/epages/BT3262.sf and not http://www.ezpmppdu.com
I havent even tried to submit the site map yet.
Any ideas how to authenticate with BING?
Well, it may seem like no one cares about BING but when YAHOO get their searches through BING, as they say they will, that will represent 20% +/- of the total search volume; not something to be thrown away lightly, even though GOOGLE may get the lions share!
Has anyone successfully authenticated with Bing? If so coule you please share how?
This is pretty easy, I've just done it successfully.
Go to http://www.bing.com/webmaster
> Add a site
> In the web address field just put your top level domain e.g. www.mywebsite.co.uk and your email address
> Now copy the 'meta tag authentication code'
Go to your eShop Admin
> Settings - General Settings - Advanced Settings
> Paste the 'meta tag authentication code' in the 'HTML Head Area'
Go back to Bing
> Click on your site in the Site List
DONE!
