System Administrator [postmaster@he.local] over limit on mailbox

curtainqueen

Hi there,

every day I am getting a message saying my mailbox is full. I have logged into webmail and deleted the majority of emails, and cleared my deleted items folders and sent messages.

I assume this is my webmail folders rather than outlook on my computer.

Please help, I am not very technical and easily exasperated by such things. 🙂

The default limit for a mailbox is only 50MB.  It wouldn't take many messages to use that up if there are any message attachments of any size.  You can allocate more of your e-mail storage space to individual mailboxes, please see this:

Allocating additional storage space to BT Business Email

Ultimately, we'd recommend that you download your e-mail from our servers to a mail program on your computer.  Any program, Windows Live Mail, Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird etc, can be set up to do this.  If you don't need to access copies of messages when using a different computer, we'd strongly recommend that the feature to leave copies of messages on the server is disabled, whatever program you use.

Hi there,

I leave mesages on the server but only for a limited time, so I can work on them from home or office. I have only a few in there since I cleared it out, with no attachments. I think it is a message being sent in error.

at the moment they total 300KB!

These alerts are automatically generated (you will get the first one when your mailbox is 80% full).  As such, they are a "Snapshot" of your mailbox.  Obviously, after a send/receive cycle on your mail program, things can change, depending on exactly what option you have under "Leave a copy of Messages on the Servers".  Do be aware that all folders, including "Deleted Items" should be cleared on-line.

My suggestion of increasing your mailbox size should make sure that the alerts are sent less frequently, at least.

Hello Curtainqueen,

Does your message look like this*

I am looking at this for someone else getting the same message frequently, even though the btconnect mailbox is clean.

Also, the procedure outlined in this mail of deleting items in the sent and deleted folders is OK if it is referring to the webmail access for your btconnect mailbox, but is completely inappropriate if applied to your own client mail program on your own computer. The text does not make this clear. BT could do better on this.

Having read through a number of messages on this forum, and the responses from moderators, I don't think BT are really taking on board that there is a systems problem which needs looking into.

At what point are these "mailbox full" messages generated?  There is a bug/problem with this, I suspect.

Hi,

Have you/they checked every folder in webmail (including Sent Items, Deleted Items, Drafts, etc.), and made sure that the view in the upper left is set to 'Messages', which is the only one that shows the size of emails, so that the total size of any emails can be tallied?

If that's the case and the messages are still being received then contact the Helpdesk.

Cheers.

Hi All,

I have the same message over many days resulting in now the mailbox being closed.  I have:

-deleted unwanted emails and deleted folders in my MS Outlook on PC

-moved as much as possible into .pst files

-deleted all message on my webmail

-increased my allocated allowance to the maximum 250mb

-reduced the days messages left on server from 10 to 7 to 2 and now i have unticked message left on server so none should remain.

and yet still i receive the same message of my mailbox been closed.  I flumoxed since the email address I refer to is not a high use email address either.

Please advise what more I can do to resolve the issue or is the issue at the BT end?

Many thanks

Please take a look at this topic I found in BT KB,It explains here what you need to do if your mailbox is full :- http://btbusiness.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8125/~/why-do-i-keep-receiving-%27mailbox-ful...
