Unable to download my website via BT

I purchased a domain name from BT about a week ago and have been unable to upload the site to a server since then, despite the best efforts of the 'live' chat service.

It was resolved (not to my satisfaction) by the operator (using remote access) via Filezilla. However, I don't want o go through this rigmarole each time I want to make a change to my site. I use Serif WebPlus X2 and have had no trouble with other hosting packages.  I just go to my tool bar, type in some info and it uploads the site to my host.

There seems to be a problem with "security setting", but I don't think that should concern me. I'm paying for a service and don't want to hear about security settings being a problem.

Any advice would be appreciated

Hi there,

Not heard of any specific problems with this package.  Whats the error message or the 'security issue' your talking about?

Thanks

Dear Spank,

I use Serif WebplusX2 and already have one site up and running with another host, but thought I'd give Bt ago as it seemed like a nice simple package...until it came to uploading my site !

Normally, in WebplusX2, there is a button on the tool bar to publish the site. And it is really very simple to use. you simply click on the button, it asks you for the ftp address your username and password and away it goes!

I'm a pretty simple sole when it comes to technology and I thought it would be the same with BT, but when I come to entering the username and password (that I thought was correct) it won't upload. The message I get is the username and apssword are incorrect.

I tried using live chat with BT and although they tried their best, I was told there was a security problem. The exact words were " I think there is a security setting that is causing it not to log in". ('IT' being my site)

I was the asked if I would be willing to try using filezilla and agreed and it was uploaded from my local disc o.k.

But to be honest I don't want to faff about with filezilla or anything else. WebpluX2 does the job fine and I think BT should resolve this "security setting" problem. It's probably my fault somewhere along the line, but I could do with some assistance from BT technical support.

I have been told to expect a 'phone call, and am still waiting.

It sounds like the 'security' setting is on your side if it is working ok with Filezilla.

From the error message that you described though, it sounds like all you have done is entered the wrong FTP username and password into Serif.
