Whenever I click on any of my site links (including google ads) my website www.homesecurealarms.co.uk will not load and shows the message server not found or is unavailable. I have to reload the page (sometimes 3 or 4 times) before my home page shows. I also noticed that when accessing easysite wizard from the main BT site that I sometimes get the same message and have to reload the page. Is there a problem with the servers ?
Hi, Mr. Traynor, your site looks fine, although some of the links are not active, you'd need to edit this. Can you elaborate a little about the difficulty? Are you having trouble navigating to the site from an "external" link? If so, can we have a web address for that link?
No pages on my website show at times when any external link is clicked (organic results or google Pay Per Click, its the same if I type my web address directly and click go. Dont know if its related but I noticed that when I log into my account on the bt website, click manage services, website hosting and manage homesecurealarms.co.uk, I get the following message-
The web page at https://hosting.hostingbt.com/OS4/index.php might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
If I click RETRY the page usually loads ok. This is exactly the same sort of thing that happens if I try to view my website.
I have no problem viewing any other content on the internet, and I think this would rule out any problems with my PC, internet connection etc.
I did set up and design my site but I am no expert and have very limited knowledge of this sort of thing, though it has been working without issue up to now. My main concern is that I am using google Pay Per Click and if someone clicks on my ad and it will not load my web page it's money wasted.
This probably sounds stupid but I was wondering could it be some sort of external attack on my site as I have been having a bit of trouble with some of my competitors lately ?
Many Thanks, Iain
The issue with https://hosting.hostingbt.com/OS4/index.php cleared by clearing your browser's cache of temporary internet files and cookies, then logging in again.
As for the external links, you'd need to ensure that the reffering sites have the correct web address for your site. If you are using URL forwarding, this may cause difficulties with some web bots since they won't follow, for example, frame forwarding form your domain name to your web space address. Have you consulted yoru referrers about this?
I set up and take care of all my own ads (no third party involved) and my links are all fine and have not been changed.
When the message 'server not found' appears, if I click RETRY, my site will appear ok on the second or third attempt, so obviously the links are not the problem.
I have been looking through some of the posts on here and there is one from Heather G with a link to her website www.vpa-ni.co.uk
The strange thing is her website has exactly the same issue, when I click on the link the 'server not found' message appears, when RETRY is clicked once or twice the site eventually shows. Is there a local server in Northern Ireland being used as that is where myself and Heather G are based ?
I do not have any other problems with links to other sites, it seems like a server problem.
Hi there IainTraynor,
When you click on the link and get the page cannot be displayed, does the link you are accessing appear in the address bar, if so then your issue may actually be faulty DNS resolution. Especially if you try it a few times and it sparks to life. I would try specifying a pair of DNS servers first of all. If not that then there may be drops in your internet service. Hope this helps.
Hi Chris, apologies but I'm not really that good with these things, my internet connection is ok as I have no problems at all accessing any other sites. Ive no idea what faulty DNS resolution is or how to specify a pair of DNS servers. Maybe it's time I got an expert in to have a look.
