Hi,
We have two BT Blackberry Curve 8900s but can't get Youtube videos to play on either of them. Looking at other forums Youtube should work on these devices out of the box.
Anyone else having these problems . . . or not?
Bob.
Hi Bob
I never managed to get youtube working with my previous 8320 (I believe the software was to blame) but I have managed to get it working on my 8900, although only when on WiFi when on GPRS mine is just stuck (I do have the APN settings setup correctly) - so it would need someone from BT to either acknowledge that it doesn't work over GPRS or explain what we'd need to do.
Sorry I can't be much more help.

Hello P
I can't even get mine to work on WiFi. It thinks for a bit then comes up with the error: "Wireless network connection has been disconnected. Please try again" when there clearly isn't anything wrong with the wireless network connection.
I have APN set to
APN: btmobile.bt.com
APN Authentication: on
username: bt
password: bt
Are those the settings you are using?
Bob.
Yeh they are the settings I'm using...

Not sure why you're getting that message but since you are it does sound like there might be a problem with the WiFi connection - when I tried mine last night I was at home with my BB right next to my WiFi router. I tried it in both the WAP Browser and the HotSpot Browser in case one didn't work but they both appeared to work...dunno what else to say...I know it's infuriating but it does help to know that it is possible....hope you get it sorted. In case it helps my Browser Properties says version 6.1 and my OS is 4.6.1.206 (317) which was an update to what was originally loaded on my BB which I got from BT in April.

Hi,
Streaming video such as YouTube is only available on BT Mobile Blackberry device when WiFi connection is available and active. There is no need to set the APN details, setting these may cause an un-needed GPRS connection to initiate and this may incur charges, I would suggest that you remove this information from the device. The wireless network in the error may be the mobile network rather than WiFi, and this is what is being disconnected rather than WiFi. Before attempting to view these videos, you should first ensure that WiFi is connected and active. From the main screen click on Manage Connections and ensure that WiFi has a white tick to the left, at this point the WiFi logo will appear faded beside the signal meter. This enables WiFi, however it is not connected until the WiFi network name is shown and a green tick appears on the right, at this point the WiFi network name will also appear beside the mobile network name, and the WiFi logo will appear in bold beside the signal meter.
Once this is confirmed connected, open the browser and browse to the appropriate page, and click on the link to view the video.
Let me know if you're still having problems and I'll try to get an answer for you!
Scott
Hi Scott,
The configuration you have told me about is the way I have my BBs set up. I only input the APN details to see if that would get over the YouTube issue, but it didn't work so I removed these APN entries.
Following your reply at least I now know that I can't expect to get video streaming working when not on WiFi.
Anyway, even with it set up as you described I'm still getting the error.
I'm exploring another avenue which could be the router (Access Point) I'm using for WiFi. I have two identical WiFi access points, on in my home and one in my office, both are Netgear WG102s. There could be an issue with these. To try to isolate this as a possible cause I need to take a Blackberry to another WiFi access point and try that, but I'm chained to the office just now so will probably report back in a couple of days.
Thanks for your interest.
Bob.
Hi Scott
Thanks for letting us know what will work and what won't.
The APN settings are needed to make some applications work e.g. Google Sync

I went to a customer's office yesterday and logged into their WiFi and YouTube worked just fine. So, nothing wrong with the Blackberry or the way it's set up. Must be something to do with the settings on my WiFi Access Points.
I'll look into it when I get a mo.
Bob.
Wow! nice info. Thanks for doing with proper ways.
