email password

My BT emails are driving me up the wall. I’ve reported the problem numerous times over the years but the same problem keeps returning again, and again, and again, and again ad infinitum. Outlook pop-up or iPhone message indicating password is incorrect.

This error isn’t restricted to one email account, it happens to my works account and my home account.

After discussion with the BT help desk earlier this year, when the error occurs I now connect to mail.yahoo.com on Internet Explorer which accepts the password that Outlook is rejecting. Previously, I’d connect to BT.com which would “force” a password change and the new password would then have to be entered on iPhone, iPad etc. I’ve been using the same password for several months now, but with numerous connections to mail.yahoo.com over this period. Sometimes connecting to the URL is sufficient to fix the error, if not re-entering the same password in Outlook settings (while maintaining the URL connection) fixes it. Entering the password in the popup window is never successful.  The problem is worse today than usual and have finished up killing Outlook running in background in Taskmaster to stop the pop-up interrupting continuously. Will start it up again later.

I was advised by BT helpdesk months ago, when given the mail.yahoo.com tip, that the problem had been exacerbated by work in progress transferring from the Yahoo server to BT’s own server and when completed we’d have “one login” instead of two (One for the account, second for email). The transfer had been temporarily suspended for technical reasons, is it ever going to be completed? The problem at that time was escalated to a higher level team (Silver?) but it got me absolutely nowhere.

I’m aware that the same error is occurring with other BT users too, a colleague and a relative.

I’ve only had two password resets over the years with msn, and none at all with O2 or Orange (my previous providers). I also have two gmail accounts and had no password problems with either. I’ve never been hacked on my other email accounts but my works email and colleague’s email have both been hacked. Will BT’s service ever improve?
