how does the new short link function work in eshop?

I realised that eshop has a new short link function - which is great but how does it work? All my pages have short links generated, but the long link still shows up when I click on any page in my site. I use my own domain and its driving me crazy! I bet the answer is that it only works in BT shop lite??

Type one of your short links into the URL address bar and see if it takes you to the right page.  I think, if you want someone to go to a particular page on your site, you can send them the short link rather than the long version, but the full link will still be dispalyed in the address bar.
