Hi,
I'm looking for some help & advice please.
I am trying to set up a mac mini with os x server and would ilke to add an airport extreme into my setup to act as the router and make things easier to control/change. With the addition of a stand alone modem, I was thinking the draytek vigor 120.
My problem is that I have a VOIP number with bt and have been reading that the airport extreme doesn't support a VOIP service. I had a little chat with BT tech support but didnt come up with a satifactory soloution.
One thing that I really want to do is ditch the BT business 2wire as it really is rubbish, I have many issues with it from not being able to download from the app store to non existing wifi. Although I have work around solutions for these problems it would be nice not to have them!
So any help or advice welcome.
Hi m00gie,
It depends on how you are using the VoIP service, if you are connecting a standard phone to the 2Wire router via the grey 2Wire adapter, then you need to use the 2wire router, but if you are using an IP phone such as the Cisco SPA303 IP Phone which we can provide then this can connect into any router as it connects via an ethernet cable to the back of the router.

Hi Mark,
For the VIOP I am using a standard phone plugged directly into the back of the 2wire phone socket.
So using a phone such as the Cisco SPA303 IP Phone would mean that the VIOP is handled outside the router?
To confirm I could then have the modem connected to the airport extreme which could act as my router and then plug the Cisco SPA303 IP Phone into my ethernet switch?
Hi m00gie,
Yes when you use a phone such as the Cisco the configuation is in the phone and can be connect to a switch where with a standard phone the configuartion is in the 2 Wire router.

I currently have the one VOIP number with 2 handsets, one in the office and one in the workshop. Can this still be acheived using the Cisco SPA303 IP Phone(s)? And would I be able to transfer between the 2 phones?
