Access work files from home

I have now got my broadband router working at the office.

I have a hard drive connected to the router to store files and do backups allowing myself and my colleague to have a shared space to store files.

Our broadband has a static IP.

Am i right in thinking that by having this static IP then i should be able to access the hard drive from external locations?

If so please could somebody tell me how in laymans terms?

Many Thanks

Hi,

You would need to open ports in the router firewall to allow you to access the hard drive externally.

If you have the BT business hub, this document will explain how to do this in the Small Office Network Guide
