Are BT slugging GPRS/3G/HSPA Access?

Using my business mobile connection via Access Manager I've noticed recently that when I start up circa 6:30 in the morning that the connection is only delivering a GPRS connection, whereas it has generally been a 3G, occasional HSPA, connection.
GPRS just doesn't do it so I switch to Openzone (via browser) and keep an occasional eye on the Access Manager connection for any change.

I've noticed that it switches from GPRS to 3G  sometime after 7:00am - not really thought about this too much; so I watched it this morning. Solid GPRS from 6:15am until 7:20am when it changed to 3G.

GPRS just doesn't cut it; might as well have no connection. So it looks like BT, for some reason, are slugging the connection and then upping it at a given time. (it has nothing to do with atmospherics, anaprop, etc)

I'll be looking for the same change tomorrow morning. Why? my OZ business minutes are limited and whilst 3G isn't available I have to use OZ - so if I end up exceeding my OZallowance then  I have a case  for mitigation. 🙂

Anyone else noticed this?

And just how will BT do that?

BT don't run or control any of the mobile networks.

I don't know that BT don't run or control any of the mobile networks.

They are however, my prime contractor for data services; and they make no reference here that services may be provided by a 3rd party (save that of "roaming")

If you read ALL of te relevant information it is fairly easy to find:   http://business.bt.com/business-mobile/mobile/why-bt/ is two clicks from this page and refers to the BT Network partner.

As per my original post; BT mobile data access came up as GPRS  (6:30ish). A few seconds after 7:20am it changed to 3G.
