BT Business Poor Browsing Experience

Potter911

Hi there, switched to BT business in June 2010 as we moved house and our old provider could not provide us with broadband at our new house.  We were sent a BT2700HGV business hub with VoIP functionality which we need for our business phone line.

All works fine (VoIP), but we have a poor browsing experience, by which I mean websites loading very slowly or not at all, at seemingly random times. Even though downloading large files (games from Steam) is as should be, and speed testers show good download / upload speeds. These problems happen regardless of whether we are using 3 or 4 computers online at once, or whether we use just 1. Hardwired or wireless, seems to make no difference.

The only thing that does solve this problem is using my old wireless router, a Zoom X6.  This router works perfectly regardless of how many machines are online at one time. The only problem is that it does not have VoIP functionality which we need for the business phone. If it did, we would simply ditch the 2700HGV and use the Zoom X6.

Either way, this leads me to believe it is a problem with the BT2700HGV.

This is what the Broadband status page looks like if anybody was interested.

If anyone can help, I would be most grateful.  We've been experiencing this problem since we were using the 2700HGV and tried to ignore the problem, but it is getting rather annoying now.

Many thanks.

Hi guys, looks like the problem is solved!

I did as damian suggested and contacted tech support via live chat, they took control of my computer and changed the DNS in my network adaptors ipv4 settings as follows;

Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8

Secondary DNS server: 8.8.4.4

I applied these settings to all the computers on the network and this seems to have fixed the problem! Thanks for your input, and thanks particularly to damian.

Hi There - I had exactly the same issue. Same modem and same symptoms.

I was the same an ignored it for a while - yesterday i went onto the Live chat and explained the issue to BT. They took control of my computer remotely and changed my DNS settings. This rectified the issue immediately.

If you mention the issue with DNS above it should save you from explaining the whole problem to them.

Hope this helps!

I am experiencing the same problems as well. Please can you advise the DNS addresses that BT gave you.

Did they alter the DNS settings on your BT2700 HGV router or the ones on your PC?

Hopefully if I can make these alterations it will solve my problems as well.

Many thanks
