BT2700 hub doing a "factory reset" by itself?

I have been using BT Broadband for around a couple of months now. While the actual download speed is fine, on three occasions now we've had this situation where the performance in terms of accessing web sites, being able to, say, watch a short video clip on BBC news or whatever, gets worse and worse.
And then the hub somehow resets itself. So, a few minutes later, it starts working again, faster than the last few hours.
Fine for me on a wired connection, but then others start saying "My notebook PC won't connect or web browse".
When I look at it, its totally "forgotten" every setting I entered: the SSID, wireless security passphrase, DHCP address range, even the hub's own password that I entered, all have gone.
The SSID goes back to "BTBusinessHub-xxx" with the WEP key on the sticker on the side of the unit. There has definitely NOT been a power outage (I would have noticed my PC re-booting, and the lights going out, etc).
Anyone else had this, or got any suggestions as to why this happens? Any type of network traffic triggers it? Are their any firmware updates to this hub?
Any way of backing up my settings, other than what I have done, which is simply to keep a Word document on my PC with all the key stuff to re-enter?
Should the settings survive a power failure?
What does the button on the front of the hub do?
Thanks in advance for any help at all.....
Giles..

Hi amherst,
Sorry to read about the issues that you are having with your router.
It does sound as if it could be a possible faulty router.
What I would suggest is to speak to our Technical Helpdesk, they would be able to assist you with this further.
Thanks
Tracey

Hello Tracey, I think BT has a faulty batch of routers or there is another issue.
I have four clients where routers are resetting themselves, I am currently logging into another client who cannot connect remotely and checking the router ALL open ports configured are no longer there. I am trying to add them back in and the new password I aet up and am trying to accept settings is not accepted so have to now say cant remember but need wepkey on side of router which I do not know as am off site. Another wasted visit to clients site.
One client had 3 routers sent to them just before xmas and all did the same and technical said better buy your own !!! I was willing to have them connect and check any router logs but were not interested.
Have to now tell this client he cant work remotely and I will have to visit to do again.
I have other clients who had routers over a year ago and they do not have any of these issues.

BT got nothing to say ? I see BT staff are posting in other messages. I took the time to find this place, setup an account and post, some response would be a courtesy.

Hi SwanBill,
We have already answered this post, we are not able to assist you with this.
If you are having issues with your router you would need to speak to the Technical team to have assistance with this.
Hope this helps

Sorry but that is a very poor answer.
I have come here ibecause technical have been no use and I am trying to let BT know that there maybe a product issue. Individual who answers phone, what do they care about a faulty router. All they say is will send another router when I have asked to be passed to second level support. One client has four routers at their premises, they now use a Belkin router.
I assumed you gathered I look after many BT clients and I was expecting you to ask for one of the clients account details, especially the recent one, you have asked this many times in other posts, why not this time?
This response confirms that you are aware of an issue and not prepared to discuss.

Hello Swanbill
I was wondering if you had any solution to your problem as I too have had the same problem.
We have two sites and over the last twleve months I have been sent around 4 or 5 replacemnt hubs both resetting them selves every couple of days.
I use them in my coffee shops and set a custom network SSID and security key, however I need to change them (along with the router password) every few days.
Bt tech help just repeat the same script over and over again, buy new filters, move to the main socket and when nothing works they just send a new hub. I have tried to complain but so far have got nowhere!
I think it is extremely rude if we do not get some kind of help through these forums as many of us are lifelong bt customers business and home!
