BT2700HGV Router Details

Hi.

I have started to implement content screening, but it appears to be a blanket allow / block. However in the content screening menu I can see various devices attached under the computer heading.

I would like to add another device for a user who requires access to some of the sites I have blocked, but can see no way to add a device.

How does the router determine these devices, and is there a way to add a device?

A couple of the devices are PC's that are attached to our network.

The BT Router connects to our CISCO Firewall and so all network devices need to pass through this protection before going out through the BT Router.

Any clues please?

Thanks,

How many gateways do you have in your network? You can probably route a specific source IP to a gateway with no restrictions.

This means you need to assign static IPs on all PCs on your network.

The router detects new devices and adds them to the list and you can then allocate them to Group1 or Group2 for content screening.

You can select the last one on the list "New Computer" and give that strict screening so any new device user will need to ask you to free up access.

too many devices to go with static ip's. I'm afraid.  Thanks for the help though.

how does the router detect new devices?  i have a few of our networked pc's being detected but not all of them. I'm pretty sure that the detected devices have not been connected to the router at some stage.  If I attach the laptop in questions then will that setup the account under the computer section?

Where are the devices getting their IP address from?   They will normally need to access the router for that - inless your DHCP server is elsewhere.

Yes, attached a laptiop - you may need to do it twice withh wired and wirless and they will have different MAC addresses.

 DHCP from Domain Controller.

OK will try and attach the laptop as its user specific and see if I can put that device on to group 2 which has no blocking control.

Thanks for your help. Will let you know how I get on.

Cheer.

ok added the device to the Router settings and have associated the device to a No Restrictions group, but the user is still not able to access the websites that I have blocked within group1.

I have a feeling that this is not going to work and I may need to look at a web proxy appliance rather than the BT Router.

Unless you know otherwise.

Cheers for all the help thus far.

Have you used the SAVE button after each change?

On occasion I've found that if you're applying access control rules but they're not being adhered to, then best thing to do is clear the device list and re-set them up again. Not exactly a quick-fix but seems to be the most effective. Go to Settings> Diagnostics> Resets and clear the device list, once the devices are rediscovered add them to the appropriate group again. The other knock-on affect of this is any port rules currently in place will need to be re-added again.
