Broadband Speed a complete myth

Advertised Boadband speed on bT Connect in the Hinckley is becoming a complete myth. On last renewal we were promised up to 20k speed - after some weeks downlaod speed got up to around 1.3k  but has now diminished again. Today is just over 0.3k. Completely unacceptable for the monthly fee cheerfully whipped from bank account.

It seems BT Connect speeds are increasingly a complete myth and fast becoming something that Advertising Standards Authority should look at.

Hi

I am sorry that no one has been able to assist you on the forum.

Although the website advertises an up to 20mb service, it also states that:

- Up to 20Mb refers to the maximum download speed (upload speeds are slower). Up to 20Mb download speeds are subject to factors including local availability, line test and distance from an exchange. If your line will not support up to 20Mb download speeds, we'll offer the best available speed on your line. The longer your line and the further you are from the exchange, the slower your speed will be.

At the top of the page there is also the option to 'Check your broadband speed', so you can check to see what speeds your line may support. This gives an estimate of the speed in relation to the distance you are from the exchange. I have tried with your number and it does say that broadband speeds are expected to be what you are getting now, so I assume that your line is quite a long length.

The ADSL tester also says that 'Super-fast fibre broadband is available' which, from the initial tests, would increase your current speed. Although it is more expensive than broadband, it would certainly be worth looking into if you need faster speeds than you can currently obtain.

Kind regards

Fiona
