Can't Manage Website outside UK

I have held a website on BT for some years now with the URL www.thecaptainslog.org.uk and have in the past used the Blog feature from abroad successfully.  However, within the last few days, I tried to access the Blog and was shut out. When I tried to access via the BTOffice, I got a message saying words to the effect of "For your added security etc, blah, blah, access the Manage Services from outside the UK has been restricted"

 

I have had no problem like this managing this website and the Blog before. Is this a recent policy change and is it permanant?  If it is a permanent change, it makes the system useless to me and I will have to look elsewhere for a suitable service that I can use while on the move.

Hi CaptainMartini,

 

The option to manage your webhosting from outside of the UK, has been a feature now for a few years, but if you go to this link and put in your ftp username and password you will be able to access your website and webspace to edit the details from outside the UK.

Thanks markp for the link - except that, as far as I can see, this is the same link I used recently, when attempting to log-in (from overseas) as Administrator via my Blog.  True, it works now OK (inside the UK again!)  but when I tried it (about a fortnight ago now), it blocked me out and refused to recognise me, so I tried the only other way I know of getting to the Blog, ie. by going in through BT Business Office. That was when the system said that access to Manage Services was restricted outside the UK.

 

Are you telling me that the link you gave (and the link from the Blog, when logging in as Admin) should usually work outside the UK and that it was just a temporary glitch that blocked me out - albeit an extremely inconvenient one that I had no opportunity to re-try, as I was on the move and then back in the UK the following day.

 

This is all a puzzle that I have no way of testing again until I'm next outside the UK!

Yes the Link Mark Provided should work outside the UK, the Indirect Link myoffice.bt.com won't work outside the UK,

I am in the UK and have message saying I cannot access Manage Services from outstide the UK.  How do I get past this?

Hi Liz_StJohns,

 

In most cases if you are in the UK and are unable to manage your website, this is caused by using a VPN or a website proxy service.

 

Please ensure you are not using any of these services.

 

If you are still having issues, please let us know by using the dns enquiry form at www.dnsforms.co.uk, please also provide your current IP address as well.
