Can't connect to FON network

Hi. My android will not connect to FON. I can see it in my list of WiFi connections and it says connected. However when I open a browser window it tells me I'm offline and I cannot connect to the BT log in page. I can connect to Openzone and BT hotspots but not to any FON networks. I am BT broadband customer.
What am I doing wrong?

Are you using the BT WiFi Android app? This makes it so much easier than trying to do this through the Android wi-fi settings, etc.

Yes, I am. I can connect to Openzone but not to any Fon or BTWifi-x.

The app seems only to pick up on premium hotspots.
