I have been suffering with very slow webpage connection issues. The line speed is good, getting up to 13,000 but pages 'sit' for ages waiting to connect. Checking the support information it says to check I have a PPPoE connection type but mine is set ( presumably automatically as I did not set it ) to PPPoA. I tried to reset to PPPoE but then get an error message "The selected ATM Encapsulation is not compatable with this connection type". What should the ATM Capsulation be set to and is this a likely cause of my problem?
Thanks for the thought. I'm using Firefox and clearing the cache doesn't seem to make much difference. However, I have set it to clear everytime I close the programme now. I have also used IE 9 and this doesn't seem any better. A click on a stored favourite on IE 9 when first opened gave a 10 second plus delay before the page 'launched'.
Hi,
If I remember correctly PPPoE is only used if you are using a separate router and modem, as it's not taking the connection directly from the modem.
At least something like that anyway.
What do you get if you go to www.speedtest.net?
Cheers.

The speed is not an issue, just checked it at 13.6M and Ping was 38ms but the pingtest.net test would not measure Packet Loss saying it was unable to measure on two sucessive tests....
Packet loss is a very serious issue which we'd need to investigate. I'd advise that you Contact Us
A recheck this morning showed a Grade A line with o% Packet Loss. I'm still trying to understand where the problem really 'sits'. I realised last night that my laptop, which of ocurse uses the wifi link to the router was showing virtually instantaneous loading of new visits whereas the desktop CAN sit for up to 20 seconds to get into the same sites - like eBay. I'll find a new ethernet cable and try next I think...... I've flushed the Browser ( Firefox) cache and no change.
Hi,
Have you tried alternate browsers like Chrome to see if these are any different? Also have you checked any add-ons in Firefox and tried disabling them?
Might also be worth reinstalling the network card drivers on the desktop machine, and possibly even checking/replacing the network card.
Cheers.

Trying Chrome made no difference - in fact eBay took over half a minute to launch and even longer to get the page. Network card drivers are up-to-date and I don't think I can replace the Network card as I think it is built into the motherboard. In all other ways the Network is working fine and fast but I will see about re-installing when I work out how to do it 🙂
Hmmm...
If you can move files across your network ok then it wouldn't be worth it probably. That means we're back to your browser and related systems.
Have you tried accessing the site by using the IP address rather than the URL? If it's quick with that then it might be a DNS setting or proxy server issue.
Cheers.
