Content Screening again

bombinho
Super User

Seems the content screening servers are down once more. And to be precise it followed exactly the same pattern as the last time. Days before with ages to wait for anything and everything and finally the total black out.

Another test run to see how many of those content screening users have remained?

There are plenty of new 2wire 2701's on e-bay for under 20 quid if you are unlucky enough to be saddled with a BH3, I always keep a spare or two.

I also believe that BT have some left and will send you one if you whinge enough, I know some one who got one this way from BT a couple of months ago, he did however have to throw all his toys & the BH3 out of his pram & mutter the words "TalkTalk".

Just tried switching contect screening on again, and it appears to be working once more.

Keeping my fingers crossed it holds up OK.

How Web sites are Rated and Filtered by the 2WireHGV-2700/2701

SurfControl is the third party that provides 2Wire's categorization database used by Parental Controls/Content Screening. To ensure the best possible categorization, SurfControl focuses on those Web sites responsible for more than 90 percent of the world's Web traffic. Using a combination of automated software as well as human reviews, SurfControl provides the most accurate rating database in the industry. Although rating the highest traffic and most visible sites is the most practical way to build the rating database, it does mean that a number of the Internet's more than 2 billion Web sites are not currently rated. All of these sites are either very new or very obscure, and unlikely to be accessed as part of normal Web searching and browsing.

Hi you appear to be correct I thought that BT controlled the screening but I followed your link & it does seem to be 2wire or surfcontrol. The info seems to be a copple of years old but also seems current, I have had the same problems & have been following the thread & I have all mine working again now.

I have got quite used to open DNS now & it is quite good especially their up-time but I have more control with the 2wire. Rob the lads are having an Xmas do on the 15th it is at a hotel if you & your lot fancy it? we can pick you up from the ferry to save on travel costs, sorry about short notice phone or PM either way if you check this in time.

Hi Dave

I am a bit lost with it all to be honest can't understand why the manufacturer would be supplying the service & I can't believe Bt would be paying for the service for the lifespan of the router?????

But hey-ho who am I to judge, you are up and about late fella as am I, I bet you are drinking though whilst I am working!

Yes it seems to be working again now & I am in a Pub, it is closed & I am on coffee. Your do is short notice but I will ring in the AM I may jump on a boat for a few if the hotel has rooms.

I bet DaveA will be cross in the morning as we seem to be turning this into a social networking site! Ah well it is nearly Christmas! "Merry Christmas all"

Merry Christmas to you too.

Of course I have a spare 2wire router stored just in case. Question would be if it is still working once I am in need. But in the meantime this one appears to be the one that works and works *tap on wood*. Just been at a customer who reboots his shiny new router nearly on a daily base. I already have forgotten about problems like this.

Maybe the one or the other attempt to break in results in a malfunction. Once I even had one where every single device in the intranet had been crashed. But that is once in a blue moon. I would hate to have to use one of those nice looking bad working thingies.

And yes it will be interesting to see what comes out after the BH3. If BT still treats their business customers like first time internet using kids or if they accept that business means working. At the end BT business is nothing more than an employee and if they think they do not need to do what they are paid for, well you can guess...

Oh b2t: Content screening works a treat once more. And thanks for the additional infos.

Content screening has a mind of its own! I have repeatedly set up all of my devices, but each day, some of the settings change spontaneously. It is very irritating. Is anyone able tohelp?

Thanks

Hi

We think that the content screening is not currently working & that BT have stopped supporting it.

I last tried it on saturday it was not working then

Bt say that 2wire control the screening & they use surfcontrol

Regards
