I have had the Basic Packaage - EasySite Wizard Pro for the last 6 years (www.vpa-ni.co.uk) and have just created a blog today using the EasyBlogBuilder http://vpa-ni.co.uk/cgi-bin/ebb/blog2/index.php
I have a few questions and would appreciate it if anyone can point me in the right direction.
1. Why does my logo not show on the blog even though I have correctly linked the url and it shows in preview box?
2. How do I promote the blog - with the website there is the automatic option to promote through various hosts?
3. Why does my 'poll' not sit above 'search' even though I have ordered them to?
4. Is there a way to show more of the blog rather than having to click on the 'read more' option?
5. How do I link my blog to show up on my website?
Thanks.
I just opened up the blog url, everything is now blank with just a color brown.
That's strange - when I click the link above I can see it okay?
I really hope some of the Gurus can provide some advice on how to deal with my querie - where are you guys?
Things showing in preview but but not on the live site..this could be due to one of two things
a. the image has not been uploaded from your PC to the web server
b. the path pointing to the image is a relative path [eg Turn left walk 10 paces turn right walk 5 paces] so where you end up depends where you started. Iif the page gets uploaded to the wrong position some things may not connect like it is supposed to. As opposed to an Absolute path that begins with a fixed starting point for example http://mysite.com/blog/images/logo.jpg
Promotion Basic
All online advertising starts with submitting a sitemap to the Search Engine Providers such as Google & Bing to let them know you exist, within three months they should of come over looked at the site and indexed any pages they thought were interesting. Google has repeatedly stated it likes to find Interesting, Relevent and above all UNIQUE content so no cut & paste from other sources because they will spot it.
Promotion II - Signature Tagging
Otherwise known as shameless self promotion where you have a link to your site either as a forum post signature (like the one for lovelogic.net below) or by somehow working a link in to your blog or business site in the process of answering another users question. This is why you find web designers lurking on all kinds of forums from Gardening to Pet care etc partly because they have other interests in life but mainly because they want to raise awareness of what they do with non-techy people who are most likely to use their services. In your case there are many users out there to be found in small business and freelancing forums who may need you services on occasion.
Promotion - Blogs
Fall into two groups.. In house blogs attached to the company website and independant blogs hosted somewhere else on the web under a different name.
In house blogs are generally a catch all for company news, developments and so forth plus your life outside of work. Not for simply repeating the contents of the main site. Think of an in house blog like fly paper where somebody performing an Internet search comes across a random snippet or relevent post. Who then maybe then looks deeper to see what you do for a living.
Independant blogs of course can be about anything and everything... politics, funny pictures, reviews etc These are where testamonials and links of recomendation for your services carry more wieght with search engines because in theory they are not written by you. In reality SEO firms maintain thousands of Blogs and Social Networking profiles all controlled from a single point as means of skewing what the search engines see.
This sort of thing does take time to set up but it's not uncommon for an ambitious website to be running a dozen or so 'ghost' users & blogs running around the web saying good things about them set up on specialised providers such as Blogger.com or using free web hosting & wordpress over at the likes of 000Webhost or X10hosting.
Update - have played around a bit with the blog and have now got the 'poll' position sorted.
For the life of me I cannot get my logo to display even though I have tried copying the link from my BT Photo Albums section and I also tried uploading it to Flicker and copying the link from there - no joy - where is it supposed to sit?
Also when I view the blog address at the top is that the one I promote? http://vpa-ni.co.uk/cgi-bin/ebb/blog2/index.php
How do I get the blog to sit as an extra page at the end of my website?
Really would appreciate some advice.
