FTP difficulty

Hi,

I'm in process of creating website for upload to my webspace purchased from BT. I am using a 3rd party editor (kompozer), and plan to ftp the site to the webspace. From reading i understand it is a good idea to upload a simple index page initially, then build from that and ftp the created site as i go.

That's the back ground, but when i try to send the basic homepage via ftp to my domain/webspace, it tells me "The server is not available. Check your connection and try again later"

I contacted BT via live chat earlier today, and confirmed the following ftp settings;

Server name: ftp://ftp.burrowshall.co.uk
Username: burrowshall.co.uk
Password: ********
Port: 21

but when i use these still the same as above. Any suggestions/assitance much appreciated.

I read that some providers require you to put the site into specific directory, so the website information should be http://burrowshall.co.uk/public or something similar?

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks

Richard

Hi richwell

I am glad that you have been able to upload it now, if the BT logo is still showing, it could be that the website has not been uploaded to the public folder but instead to the route folder.

When uploading please make sure you upload to the public folder and the main page is called index.

Hi richwell,

I have had a look at your domain and it is hosted with BT, what the problem is, was there was no FTP DNS record for your domain name, which is why it is not working.

I have had the domain name team add this DNS record so you will be able to upload via FTP now.

Thanks

Thanks for response markp. It says i have uploaded successfully, however when i visit the webpage, it still has the BT logo, stating the domain name has been registered with BT. Presumably it takes a while for the site to propogate onto internet servers. I'll try and access again later.
