My site went live in sep 2010 which was designed by BT, it is an online selling site and I am doing reasonably well. At the moment my site is visible to customers only through google adwords which is costing me a lot. My site does not come up on the free listings of Google yet. My designer suggested that it would take some time to come up on the free listings, Can anyone advise me as to how can you I make my site appear on the first page. Thanks

What you are talking about is the holy grail of Search Engine Optimisation. As an eShop owner you should be aware of Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO as it is more commonly known. As a first step I suggest you put SEO into Google and start reading. I just did it and got 321 million results.....
