HTTP 403 Forbidden error for new domain name

Can anyone possibly help me with this please?

I have a new BT domain name and am using their free 50MB space for my websiteI ordered it last Thursday and started using it this morningI have uploaded my site.

I can successfully view it from: home.btconnect.com/epsom-downs-windows.co.uk

However, if I type in just the domain nameepsom-downs-windows.co.uk or www.epsom-downs-windows.co.uk all I get is HTTP 403 Forbidden "The website declined to show this webpage"

My index.html is definitely all in lower case and I copied it to index.htm just in case it made a difference (it did not)

Because I am not paying for hosting, BT don't offer free assistance, so I would be very grateful for any advice.

Many thanks, Debbie

You should be able to re-point this yourself by logging in to myoffice.bt.com using your primary email/password. Click "manage services" then in the "Domains" section click on "manage your domain names". In here you should be able you forward to your free webspace. URL forwarding will do a simple re-direct, with visitors able to see the "home.btconnect.com" part wheras frame re-direct will hide this but might affect Google rankings.

You need to get in touch with BT and getthem to point your domain name towards the free space, currently it doesnt. www.dnsforms.co.uk might be able to do it for you. It might not be them that help you if you are a pay as you go customer, but they can provide you the number for assistance. There is a number, I have spoken to them before.

Hi Simon,

I've just checked and your site works fine, this is most likely your DNS settings on your computer. Try rebooting your internet router and computer, clearing out your temporary internet files and doing a DNS flush and it should be fine.

many thanks to you all for your help

cowan85I immediately did what you said, and I'm sure this was a necessary part of the initial setup, but more was needed...

gs - you were absolutely correctBT had to sort this one outThey "made an update to the original setup records" and said it was not something I could do online.  They would not explain to me what they had done, but all worked a treat about 5 mins after they had done it.
