Help - possible website hack.

DigitalPA
Member

Today I noticed that there was a link on my website in the header, my website www.digitalpa.net.  It was from an SEO company www.1VSEO.co.uk.  How does this happen, I have not given this company permission.  I though that the website was secure.  I have now changed my password but very concerned what other links are hidden.

Cany anyone spread any light on this.

Thank you.

Can't help with the hack circumstances but the .co.uk reference means that the registrar ends up being Nominet - so have a browse on their website (should find full details of the co.uk site and you can make a complaint to Nominet if you so wish).

On hidden links a view/search of the website html shouls turn up any references

Can you not remove it in your source code if there is any possibility to do this?

Well it looks OK now at 08:50 20/04/2012

Ensure the website password at  least 12 characters long and uses random alphanumeric sequences.

Make sure the Antivirus is up to date on the PC running the website builder, sadly this is not allways 100% effective as some antivirus software can get infected itself and provide a false reading thus hiding the virus. If in any doubt grab a geek with a CD of 'Puppy' or 'Ubuntu' linux and start the PC using that, then run a virus scan.
