How can BT allow my business line to be transferred?

How can BT allow my business line to be transferred to another service provider without letting me know?

The same thing happened to me this morning. I woke up this morning to find that my business line no longer functioned as before, I did not need to dial 9 to get a line, lost my voice messaging system and all other  pre-arranged functions disappeared. I called BT to find out what was the problem, going through the hoops and after 20 minutes of asking me various unrelated questions, she informed me that BT was not my service provider. You can imagine my shock and horror as BT has been my only business line service provider since its inception in 2005 and I am the only user of this line.  She insisted that BT has not been my service provider since last June (June 2013) and disconnected the line before I could saying anything further.

 

Obviously I called back to speak with someone who was not as rude and unhelpful. Also armed  with the copy of my latest invoice date Nov 2013 (I pay quarterly in advance), and after  going through the hoops again with a BT rep, he told me that in fact my line was taken over this morning .He said that he is putting me through the slamming department so that they can help re-install my line. Chris at the slamming department said he will re-install my line on a 5 year contract. I said this is not acceptable as I was not on this contract before. He then offered me a three year contract which I refused again insisting on being put on the exact status as I was before. He finally agreed and said he will send me an email confirmation of this. As of this evening I have not received an email. Oh, by the way all the time he was trying to r-install me he also tried to sell me other products. What a cheek...

 

My issues are:

(1)    How did BT let my line to be taken away so easily?

(2)    Why did they not let me know about this?

(3)    Why will they not tell me who the other service provider is?

(4)    Why does it take 10 business days to be re-installed if I have been a customer for 8 years?

(5)    Why have not got an email confirmation as of yet?

 

I run a tax consulting business and January is the busiest time of the year for me. I have already lost a lot money and will be taking legal action against BT and the other service provider (once I know who they are).

 

What I don’t know as of right now are:

(1)    Who the other service provider who stole my line are?

(2)    Whether or not my line has been re-installed.

 

I called ofcom and they need until next Tuesday to tell me exactly what happened and who is at fault. What I know for sure is that I am the only innocent party and am losing money through no fault of my own. I have every intention of taking legal action.

 

I am flabbergasted at:

(1) How easily BT let me business to be taken away

(2) The rudeness with which they dealt with me

 (3) The length of time it takes to re-install and existing line

 (4)Their unwillingness to provide me with a piece of mind and explanation

(5) Their audacity to try to sell me other products at this time when I am trying to sort our a pressing matter and have not confidence in them.

I have been on the phone again today with BT and ofcom to see what kind of solution they are willing to provide for me visa vie massaging service. I have lost my BT voice mail service and I do not know whothe new provider is to ask for it. My clients are not able to leave me messages at this moment. I am in meetings a lot of the time and need this for when I am away from my desk. To make matters worst I am going away at the end of next week and am in deparate need of a voice mail service. Neither BT or ofcom were able to provide me with any solution apart from wait 10 working days before BT has re-intalled me. Not good enough I am afraid.
