I've had a some basic html pages up for some time on a BT Connect package. Although I have web publisher and Internet Business pack, I am awkward in that I don't want BT to manage my domain, and as the site is simple enough to not warrant CMS features, and I'm happy just to edit the code for now.
The linking is dead straightforward - just half a dozen pages all in the same directory. My registrant domain service just forwards traffic to my BT Connect index page. This has worked fine for years, I had just direct links to the pages as they were all in the same directory. Just recently, I noticed that under Firefox browsers, the "home.btconnect.com/myuserid/" path is displayed (but not IE 8 for some reason). To get around this I changed my links to be full path including my domain. This seemed to work ok for a while, but now whenever any of my full path links are selected eg: "http://www.mydomain.com/firstpage.html" , a BT page that to any casual user seems to be claiming ownship over my domain is displayed instead of the correct site page (this applies to both IE and Firefox).
What gives? A cynic might feel that the "standard" hosting service has been downgraded to "Lite" to force users onto a more expensive package which you would have expected to get but don't with either the Web Publisher or Internet Business Pack.
Probably easier to manage for BT but a pain for me - if true. Enlightenment anyone?

Just to clarify - you've got a non-BT hosted domain that is pointed to home.btconnect.com/<webspace> and the issue is that some browers display "http://yourdomain/yourpage" in the status bar and some display http://home.btconnect.com/<webspace>/yourpage - is that summarising it correctly?
If so, the issue lies with how you are forwarding the domain name and how the browsers are handling that redirect. To emphaise what dave wrote earlier - home.btconnect.com is the server for the Lite (free) web hosting package.
