Hi,
We have a domain with BT. We wish to use a subdomain for a email elsewhere
So xyz.com is our main address
email.xyz.com is to be used for email elsewhere
Is it possible to set up an MX record for a subdomain?
I have managed to set up the A record, but can't see how I would attribute the mx record to the subdomain and not the domain.
Thanks
Hi Wiggy42,
This will need to be added as follows.
Type - MX
Key - @
Value - email.xyz.com
Plus your A record as follows.
Type - A
Key - email
Value - IP address of the new server.
This should work, if not please let me know.
Kind Regards,

Thank you
Is it possible to set up spf records for this subdomain without affecting the main domain?
I can confirm this is possible.
It is just a case of entering the "key" as "email" as follows.
Type - TXT
Key - email
Value - Spf record.

Hi Ian,
Thanks for that.
I have now been instructed that for email.xyz.com I need to set up two equal priority records
MX 10 abc.com
MX 10 EFG.com
How would I handle this so it is attributed to email.xyz.com and not xyz.com
I am also having issues adding a DKIM record due to the character limit to the field in the interface, I suspect I will need to call BT to sort this one.
Hi Wiggy42,
Please can you sent me a private message with the exact instructions, as well as the DKIM record as these can only be added on our side.
Thanks,
