MYSQL phpmyadmin problem

I have been trying to setup a MYSQL database to install wordpress without success. I installed phpmyadmin but I cannot access it. I get the error #1045 - Access denied for user ***. I think the solution is to uninstall phpmyadmin and re install it but it will not accept my password (I have tried over a dozen times) and I cannot re install it without first uninstalling it.

Can anybody help please - even if it's just to let me know how to get a support engineer on the phone.
