Norstar Meridian Compact Plus - Long shot

Right, this is a long shot but here goes.

We're a community radio station and our telephone system is a Norstar Meridian Compact Plus. One of the phones is plugged into our studio desk so that we can route calls through to air. Obviously, we have to have the phone on silent because if it rings while we're on air then that will obviously sound unprofessional.

What I'm wondering is whether there is any way for us to build a software solution that can identify when the phone(/line) is ringing and to alert the user that there is a call. Software wise, we can handle that in terms of building it, but what I'm after is whether there is anywhere we can interface a computer with the PBX in order to get hold of information with regard to when the phone is rining (perhaps a serial port on the hub, or a port on each phone). We can communicate between computers across the network, so it doesn't matter massively if the 'detecting' computer is physically away from the studio.

Hopefully this all makes sense - we aren't particularly rich as a station, and essentially our budget here is around about the zero mark, so any help you can provide would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Just think of the good you'll be doing for our community!!

The compact plus has an analog extension port. Fit a big button phone with an incoming light alert to this port and switch the sounder of on the phone.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for getting back to me, really appreciate it.

Two small questions - is the analog extension port located in the control box (?not sure on name). Also, we have four lines in the building, how do we tell the port which line to act as analog for, or will it ring on all of them?

Thanks for your time
