Poor Broadband performance

alan02893

Hi, I've been having poor broadband speeds for some time now. Will take for ever browsing to pages and my VPN connection keeps dropping out. I have had a couple of engineer visits over the last few weeks and had my line replaced a couple of times but have seen no improvement in the service. I have engineer visiting again tomorrow but i'll guess we'll go through the same process again and end up with the same result.

I've pasted in my dsl stats and would appreciate it if someone could have a look and make any suggestions as to what the problem may actually be

That snapshot looks fine - but the problem could be with part of your PC set up or an interference problem on the line which appears then goes ...

Have you checked and corrected any issues with RWIN and MTU settings ?

Run a test and follow advice from:  http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks

Check your line quality by downloading a copy of RouterStats Lite - then run it for 24 hours plotting the SNR and Sync speed with 30 second updates.   Once you have that, is there anything significant at the time when you have teh dropouts?

Thanks for that. I'm not sure if it is my laptop as when i connect it to my SKY broadband service at home i do not get these issues. I ran a test and followed the advice recommended in dslreports/tweaks but that hasn't changed anything. I've been running routerstats lite for the last 15 hours or so and can't really see any issue with that, connections speed is consistant at 14000kbps and the SNR fluctuates between 0 db to 3db. one thing that i have noticed is the Internet light on my BT2700HGV goes red every so often.

The engineer is due this morning so i'll wait to see what he suggests.

Hi Alan, my customer is having the same sort of issues. Your not in ST Ives or Huntingdon are you?

Have a look at the "Training History"

http://192.168.xxx.xxx/xslt?PAGE=C_5_3     you need the IP address of your router where I have put 192.168.xxx.xxx

That page gives the last 20 sync related events and may hold a clue.

From your overall comments you can rule out your PC ... (people often blame the line/service when the fault is on their PC).

Thanks For that. Engineer arrived yesterday did some tests and determined that there was a fault in the exhange as the line wasn't syncing correctly. He did a 'lift and shift' and my profile was reset. So far so good, had a brief period of problems this afternoon but much better tahn before.

Alan,

In your original post there are two lines:

**bleep**. Seconds w/Errors:112995421090:00:57
**bleep**. Sec. w/Severe Errors:9125446890:01:12

I no longer run a 2700 on ADSL - moved to VDSL so cannot see those here.    What does teh text actually say that is so bad that it gets censored here?

You may need to type in the form A#B#C#D#E   ...

And just keep looking at the log and see if you lose sync or resync very often.

Hi,

The *bleep* should say cumlative

I presume that your post should say:    cumulative

A great censor!    But I wonder why it did it to the original but not when typed here.   Or was it:

**bleep**.Seconds w/errors

edit to add:

Oh dear - I now see why and definitely a problem with the way the censor works!
