Hi All
We have a new BT connection and believe there must be a problem, but BT are saying it's fine.
We have tried a few different routers / modems and get basically the same
download sync speed 20325396
snr margin 5
loop att 29
upload sync speed 445714
These numbers just don't seem to tie up to me.
With 20mbps sync down but only 445kbp up?
At home i get 3mbps download sync and 448kps up!!!!
Am i wrong or do these numbers look strange ?
Cheers
Mike
Hi Mike,
It looks like you are on an ADSL service.
That means that we deliberately kill off the upload speed to get you a better download, this service has no guarantee on upload speed.
It may be worth while looking into a service which gives a better upload speed such as infinity or SDSL.
You can check infinity availability here
and you can check whether or not your exchange supports SDSL here
I hope this helps

Hi Burkem5
Thanks for the reply, yes it is adsl, we have no option for infinity at the moment.
I have to be honest that sounds very outdated what business would want there upload speed slowed to a crawl for better download!
OK how do we get this changed, we don't want better download for the expense of upload speed?
We have a BT line 3 miles up the road at our other site and we get 12mbps down and about 1.1mbps up
So how do we get this line changed to the same as the other site.
Cheers
Mike
Both sites would be ADSL, difference in distance to the exchange would play a major part in how fast your connection speed is.
If you want a guarenteed upload i would recomend SDSL where the upload and download speeds are the same.
You can contact sales to order this, the number is 0800 800 152
Thanks

Hi Mike,
The only way to increase the upload speed on the line would be to try to increase the overall speed of the line. You can do thhis by doing the basic line checks and diagnostics.
These would be:
-Moving to test socket
-changing filters
-removing all other equipment from the line
-leaving for a minimum of 24 hours to see if the speed increases, if it does this keep it as it is, it can take up to 72 hours for the line to reach the best speed.
If the speed does increase then there was something in the property bringing down the speed, by plugging equipment into the line one by one and monitoring them you will be able to pin point your issue.
The upload speed will still only be a small fraction of the download speed as this is built in to ADSL with any provider not just BT and i would never expect standard copper line broadband to go much over 1Mbps on the upload as the upload speed is in no way guarenteed on ADSL.
Hope this helps

The download at 20Mbps indicates that the line is on an ADSL2+ service.
When I had ADSL2+ the upload was at 1Mbps - and I tended to get around 850kbps.
The upstream is at the low frequency end of the ADSL spectrum so no affected by distance to the same extent that downstream is and with the limited figures shown I would have expected a full upstream to be available.
Is there the possibility that when ADSL2+ was activated the full profile was not correctly loaded and the line left with a slower 448k upstream limit?
You will need to push support to get it sorted.
A little technical knowledge and understanding can also be useful.
Also, wondering which hub do you have? If it is te 2-wire then you can get a Bin Utilisation plot - but I do not know if that includes the upstream.
You should certainly be getting 1Mbps unless there is a very localised noise issue - but getting 448k suggests you are being capped.
