Problems with Outlook having both Exchange and 365 email accounts

I am a long time subscriber to the Share & Organise email package based on Microsoft Exchange 2003.  I was moved onto the Microsoft 365 platform a few months ago.  I now have two email accounts in my Outlook 2010 - the original account associated with  Exchange and the new one for 365.  Every time I open Outlook it tries to synchronise with both email accounts.  However, it can only sync with the 365 account as the Exchange account has been discontinued, leaving me with a dialogue box asking for me to validate my settings.  I have tried to delete the Exchange based account from Outlook but find that I can't as it the "primary account".  Apparently I have to delete all other accounts before deleting the "primary account".  Before taking the drastic step of deleting all accounts and then recreating my 365 account, and risking losing all my email, contacts and calendar entries in the process, I am asking if anyone can advise me on a simple solution.  Thanks, Nick

Hi,

If you are using Windows you can go into the control panel and then into the mail applet. In there you can create a new profile and set it as default. That way all your existing messages will still be there and you can copy the messages to the new profile. Alternatively, in Outlook go into the account properties and un-tick the box that says something to effect of 'Include this account when sending and receiving'.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for your reply.  I have set my 365 account as the default.  I have also unticked the send & receive boxes for the Exchange account.  However, Outlook still tries to connect to the Exchange account when starting up.

Couple of days ago my .btconnect account stopped working in Outlook 2002/3 & sure enough I discovered I'd been migrated to Office 365. I've been through the guidance for changing my email settings but the "test settings" fails at logging onto I/C server. Has there been a password change I've missed? Any other suggestions?

Hi,

It is possible there's been a password change - easiest way to check is to log in to MyOffice with your email address and password and see if it works. I believe the problem is more likely to be your Outlook version which is *very* old and doesn't (I believe) support SSL for the connection to the incoming server.

You can either upgrade to a newer version of Outlook (which you probably should anyway since there aren't any new security patches for Outlook 2002), install a free email client (e.g. Windows Live Mail) or use the web-access to get your mail online.

Hope this helps.
