So,
I made an earlier post (here)
talking about my router/broadband issues, I keep calling tech support and I get a myriad of different advice each time, (change wireless channel, change master socket, etc etc)
The router still keeps on randomly power cycling(restarting - acts like someone flipped the switch on and off)
I've also attempted to block firmware updates and now BT are advising my to get a Surge adaptor, however when I questioned this, I was told to get one for the broadband line itself. Not a power socket one (although I will likely try this) Upon reading a lot of information on the net, the surge protectors that sit on the phone line seem to hamper the signal more and create more noise on the line making a worse connection to begin with.
Basically I wanted to know, if a: anyone has had this issue and found another possible solution I haven't tried from my earlier post. and b: any experience with router surge protection (not just power).
While I don't blame BT specifically, I am getting rather frustrated that each time I call I get asked all the same questions again and again and they don't acknowledge some of the things I have tried on previous calls or with engineers and suggest I try them again, so I end up wasting 30 mins, then get told to buy something which the person advising wasn't very clear about (was told to suggest me to buy, by another colleague).
I realise Tech support services run a crib sheet service where you tick boxes to help diagnose issues, but when I get advised to try something, which I already have numerous times. I was asked to make a list by the last person to tell them the times it went off. The call I made last night they didn't care about it and just said it was something to do with power surges even though it was power cycling during times of the day when literatly nothing was running (boiler/security lamp etc etc)
We've had no new electrical equipment in the house for over a year, and the boiler, security lights etc have been with installed with the various routers (latest is replacement and 2/3 months old) for well over 8 years without these issues then suddenly its a problem.
You should try to have it replaced. Since you might have done everything the supports asked you to do and still no resolution, it would be better to ask for a new unit.
