Sending email from Wordpress on BT hosted website.

Hi.

I have a problem in trying to get my BT hosted website to send e-mails to some ISPs.

I have recently installed Wordpress on my BT hosted website and have successfully managed to use it to send emails to myself as part of setting up 15 new users on the site – all good.  However the majority of new users did NOT get their notification e-mails which wasn’t good (the one that did has a BT mail account).

A friend advises this may be being caused by the BT SMTP server not being ‘trusted’ by the mail servers at other mail providers.

Next step was to try to configure Wordpress on the BT server to send via Googlemail**.  Trouble is that’s also failing with the error message ‘SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.’.

I think this is because Googlemail seems to need SSL turned on and if I’ve got it right BT’s servers don’t support SSL.

** I am trying to send via Googlemail on the assumption the issue is as suggested and the other mail providers will trust the Google SMTP server more than BT’s.

Any advice/ Ideas?

Cheers.

Nigel.

Managed to get it sussed.

In case it was something to do with the Wordpress plugin, I changed it and the new one had an option to send mail via PHP mail (as opposed to SMTP) and this worked out of the box.

Easy.
