Setting up new e-mail addresses for a website

Setting up new e-mail addresses for a website :  -: SMTP diagnostic: 550 5.4.1 Relay Access Denied

I have for many years had a perfectly satisfactory website, not buisness crucial just a hobby, hosted by bt who also provide my main e-mail. I thought just for a bit of fun  I would try and set up a website e-mail ( as we are supposed to be able to use many ) and put it as a mailto link on my website. I did not want to use my main btconnect address as that has my surname in it so after a few false starts I thought up a fairly harmless one which involves my website personal domain as the domain. The bt software said this address was OK and fully registered with them.

I tried it in my e-mail client Live Mail and eventually it worked with most of the tests but it would not receive e-mail from outside of bt giving the error in the delivery failiure that I quote above. I think I have got the Live Mail server settings correct as you describe but there is no option for tls which you quote in another thread.

I am at a loss why users are being sent via Microsoft Office 365 which I would suspect is part of the problem??

Anyway do sort this out quickly!

Hi Phil,

If you go to mxtoolbox and enter your domain name can you see a record marked IBMR.BTCONNECT.COM  ?

It may be that when trying to send to you the email sees this now dead end route and does not send,  this should not be an issue as the IBMR record will be set to be a last resort record and should not be used,  that said I have seen this cause issues before.

If this is the case I would ask you to contact us so we can fix this.

Thanks
